Clothes Swap June 2011

We love change – we love always trying to out-do ourselves and continually be most effective in meeting the needs of our city. With that mentality, we tackled the 2011 Clothes Swap – it was bound to be bigger and better than the previous year!

Agora Cafe was once more packed with eager swappers ready to find some awesome new threads, and help their community at the same time. The free desserts flowed, the atmosphere was electric and the tunes were pumping. We even featured a Runway Show!

We also connected in with different organisations to clothe families and their particular wants. We’re always thinking about how we can serve our community better, so we’re sure that next year will bring another level of excitement, serving and community connection.

“The Clothes Swap provided an opportunity for me to bring along some new friends of mine, a refugee family who had only been in Hamilton a few weeks.  They had fun interacting with people in their new community, met other Spanish-speaking people, sang along to the sweet blues band and loved the opportunity to scour through the abundance of clothing.

For the first time since arriving here and possibly the first time in years, they had the opportunity to pick and choose. I enjoyed watching their faces light up as they found not only warm, practical items to get through the winter, but bright, fun clothing that represented a slice of their country of origin.

Listening to their Spanish babble of excitement on the car trip home made it all worth it for me.”
