Good food. Good times. Good clothes!

2010 saw the increase in Streetworks activities and events that we’d always hoped for – what was originally going to be a project in the Streetworks April 2010 day, grew to become the first ever Streetworks Clothes Swap!

What was originally going to be a project in the April 2010 Streetworks grew to become the first ever Streetworks Clothes Swap. Hosted by Agora Cafe, we welcomed over 100 guests each with a bag of clothes to share! Food was served while tables were laden with clothes. As the doors opened dozens of people streamed into the swapping area, each armed with 5 tokens. Prizes were given for best and worst outfits created (thanks Centre Place!).

The result was 63 black sacks full of clothes donated to Hamilton Opshops! The proceeds from one of the opshops provides funds for a weekly community meal:

1 black sack of womens tops = dinner for 34 people
1 black sack of pants = dinner for 21 people

Volunteer says

I love that you guys and Streetworks give people the opportunity to serve others and really truly exercise their heart for the lost, the broken and the needy. Without Streetworks, a lot of people would have a heart for serving the lost but not a BEGINNING STEP or motivation to actually do it. Streetworks events are the start of people’s journeys to making a change in their world.

Why events?

We hope that through exposure people will be challenged to change their lifestyle and live a life where their faith is worked out through serving their community. Streetworks is a mind frame of serving that we would love to see people catch and build into their lives.
