Firewood Chop 2010

This was the first ever dedicated Streetworks Firewood Chop! Organiser Colin Klenner shares his thoughts:

“While flicking through the notices at Gateway I stumbled across a Streetworks ad asking for help with a Firewood Chop. Keen to swing an axe, I sent an email off saying “Yep sign me up, I’m keen to help anyway I can!” I quickly received a reply saying they actually needed someone to organise the whole thing; nervously I accepted the challenge.

Over the next couple of weeks, with a lot of help from Claire, I pieced together the Firewood Chop with hope of supplying firewood to the ever growing list of people in need.

On the Saturday morning, we were blessed with a perfect day and a fantastic turnout out of motivated volunteers. Chainsaws were roaring, splitters were chewing through logs, axes were swinging and trailers and trucks were being loaded, only stopping long enough for us to enjoy the amazing food and drink provided by the girls in the kitchen.

When the day came to an end, we had provided firewood to 40 families in our community. This was due to the generosity of those who donated wood, the incredible effort put in from our volunteers and God’s grace.
The highlight of my day was having a lady come to me, give me a hug and say “Thank you so much, it brought tears to my eyes when I saw a load of firewood being dropped off”.

Thank you Lord for giving us the opportunity to bless others and make a difference in their lives!”
