Fruit Tree Planting June 2011
This day was an excellent example of the desire that fuels Streetworks: Hear, Think, Do.
At the April Streetworks event, a few people talked with Te Whare Kokanga (a local community house in Melville) and heard how much they wanted to plant fruit trees on their property. The manager of the community house wanted kids who walk past on their way to school to be able to pick some fresh fruit for their breakfast or lunch.
The team hearing this desire realised that it was something they could easily make happen – and that’s exactly what they did! Hence, a fruit tree planting day was organised. This proactive response to needs in the community is exactly what Streetworks is all about!
